Northwestern
University's Dance Marathon web site and expand their online capabilities.
Dance
Marathon, currently in its 32nd year at Northwestern University, is
one of the world's largest student-run philanthropies. To reach their
2006 goal of exceeding their previous year's fund raising total of
$625,000, they wanted to expand their online capabilities. Hostway
helped this Chicago-based university in their philanthropic fund raising
efforts by providing them free web hosting to support the official
Dance Marathon website.
Hostway
was referred to the Dance Marathon Executive Board as a reliable hosting
provider by a web site developer that offered to create their site.
Hostway currently hosts the web developer's company site and looking
at Hostway's past dedication of providing free web hosting to organizations
such as Recruiters for Katrina and Baylie for Brains, the company
saw Hostway as a perfect fit to support this philanthropic organization.
"Hostway
is always eager to find opportunities to give back to the community
and Dance Marathon's success and commitment to its beneficiaries is
extremely impressive to us," said John Lee, VP of global marketing
and GM for Hostway. "We feel like the lucky ones being asked
to be involved with this event."
"We
solicited Hostway's services because they were a local company proven
for reliability," said David Kim, Dance Marathon Executive Board
member. "Our old server would crash and Dance Marathon would
lose money because people could not donate online. We're incredibly
happy with the service we've received this year."

Web
users seeking to get that ideal domain name but frustrated by the
lack of available .com extensions now have a new, free alternative.
For a limited time, 1&1 Internet is offering .info domains at
no charge for one year.
We
have long trumpeted out commitment to giving users every resource
they need for an optimal Web presence, and this is simply another
example of that approach, said 1&1 Chairman Andreas Gauger.
As less .com domains are available, it is important to give
people the flexibility and alternatives they need to still have the
Web identity thats best for them. This offer will allow more
small businesses and individuals alike to make their distinct mark
on the Internet.
According
to recent studies, Web users are increasingly gravitating to .info
domains as a viable addition or alternative to .com addresses. One
report stated that nearly 70 percent of the worlds most valuable
brandsincluding the likes of MTV, BMW, Gap and Coca-Colamaintain
.info addresses.
Overall,
some 2 million .info domains have been registered worldwide and Gauger
said there are still plenty to go around.
As
quickly as the .info extension has grown in popularity and acceptance,
there is still a lot of room for new registrants to get their ideal
address, he said. And for those that do have a .com extension,
its very wise to register at .info as well. And now is the perfect
time to do that with 1&1 because its free!
